Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Snugborough

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mnemo is a D-shaped ringfort in County Cavan, Ireland, enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse. Its original entrance has vanished, leaving only a raised area about thirty-four metres long and twenty-four metres wide. The shape suggests human hands built a defensible home or ritual space, yet the missing gateway keeps the purpose half-hidden.
Raised D-shaped area (int. dims. c. 34m N-S; c. 24m E-W) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a fosse surrounded by traces of a low counterscarp bank. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
