Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Scurlockstown (corkaree By.)

Situated on a rise of ground with low-lying poorly drained pasture to S and W. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork incorporating a field boundary to NW. Annotated ‘fort’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map where it is depicted as a roughly triangular-shaped earthwork. No monument depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map. Described in 1983 as a clearly defined raised circular-shaped area (diam. 29m) defined by traces of a fosse and an outer bank. The remains of the infilled fosse (Wth c. 3m) are best preserved at W. There are slight indications of a levelled outer bank. The perimeter is barely traceable from NE-E. Monument is visible as a roughly rectilinear-shaped cropmark defined by an area of differential growth representing an infilled fosse, on Digital Globe aerial photography.
