Fairy forts are misnamed, human made. Rathmorgan is a true ringfort, its earthen bank still standing after centuries of rain and pasture. The break in the seam is not a flaw but a doorway, waiting for someone bold enough to enter.

In pasture, just off the crest of a rise of a NW-facing slope. A circular area (36m E-W; 35m N-S) is defined by a low, grass-covered, earthen bank (Wth c. 8m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.4m). There is a break (Wth c. 5m) in the bank at SE. The interior is level and raised slightly on the N side to compensate for the hillslope. This possible rath was identified on an aerial photograph (ASIAP) taken in September 2002. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
