No fairy fort in Rathkenny. That is a false name for an ordinary human ringfort. A round earth wall, a dug ditch outside it, and a gap at the south-east where someone walked in. The fairies are not in it. A family, a herder, or a small community lived there, built the bank, dug the ditch, and used the entrance for decades or centuries. The fantasy has replaced the people. Restore the people and the false part disappears.

Internal diameter 38m N-S, 38m E-W Situated three fields NE of KE021-087---- & KE021-088----, this site consists of a circular area enclosed by a well-defined bank and exterior fosse. The enclosing earthen bank rises to 1.8m-2.6m above the interior and 3.6m above the external fosse. The external fosse is flat bottomed, 1.4m-4m wide and 1.2m below the height of the surrounding land. The entrance would appear to lie to the SE, as there is a clear break in the fosse, though there is no corresponding one in the enclosing bank. The above description is derived from C.
