Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Montiagh

On the S-facing slope of a rise. The interior is raised (max. 2m) above the surrounding ground level and defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. 0.6m) along the S, W and N arcs. It is quarried into at NE and SE. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an embanked circular area (diam. 35m). On the 1911 OS 6-inch map it is more oval in shape (long axis E-W), with the S and W arcs shown as straight sided and incorporated into a field boundary system, and indentations along the NE and SE arcs. The rath is heavily overgrown with blackthorn bushes.
