Mallowgaton holds a levelled ringfort with two earthen banks, an intervening fosse and a faint outer trace. It also contains a man-made underground passage, making the quiet ground feel like a chamber waiting to be heard. The site belongs to West Cork and preserves the shape of a rath even after loss of height.
