What is recorded here

No visible castle or church marks the owner of this fort, which is unusual for Connacht. The missing landmark may belong to a lost church, a displaced castle or a forgotten noble house. The land may have changed hands more than once before the current demesne formed. The fort preserves the shape of that lost relationship between people and place.

On a SE-facing slope in grassland. Well-preserved oval rath (67m N-S; 55m E-W) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is visible from N through E to SW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse and outer bank only survive from NW through N to NE. There is a causewayed entrance gap (Wth 4.5m) at N. A L-shaped depression in the interior may be the site of a possible Man-made underground passage (GA108-064001-).
