Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilmoraun

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilmoraun holds a forty-metre oval fort on a low ridge, its earthen bank still visible through pasture and time. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the shape defied ordinary reason or because the dead and living both claimed it. A ringfort is a boundary drawn in soil, not a warning about what lives inside.
On top of a low NNE-SSW ridge in pasture. An oval enclosure (c. 40m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE) defined by a low earthen bank visible on Google Earth (Imagery dates: 12 May 2019 and 10 Feb 2021). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 12 July 2023
