Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gortacareen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

An invisible ringfort hides in the rough pasture below The Paps of Dana, mapped as a broad oval in 1846 but cut by a road by 1895. That sudden change suggests human hands broke the ancient boundary before the land forgot its own shape. The forgotten fort may still hold a dark passage beneath the grass, waiting for someone brave enough to listen for the missing wall.
In rough pasture, on the lower NW-facing slopes of The Paps of Dana. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated as an oval enclosure (c. 70m NNE-SSW; c. 50m WNW-ENE) on the 1846 OS 6-inch map and as an intermittently enclosed area, truncated by a NW-SE road, on the 1894-5 OS 6-inch map. There is a possible Man-made underground passage (KE068-032001-) associated with this rath.
