Lis Dubh, the Blackfort, stood as a thirty-metre earthen ring on an NNE-facing slope in Garraun South until ploughs erased it around 1982. It appeared clearly on maps from 1842 to 1937, marking a boundary between human memory and ordinary soil. The landowner admitted the loss without ceremony, treating the disappearance of a ancient fortress like the removal of a stubborn stone. What remains is a void shaped like a circle, waiting for imagination to fill the dark space where its walls once stood.

In tillage, on NNE-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. According to landowner, levelled c. 1982. No visible surface trace. Called Lis Dubh or the Blackfort (Caulfield 1866, 293). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
