Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumconra OR Lowforge

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lowforge in County Cavan holds a broken fairy fort where the northeast half vanished under modern levelled soil. The remaining earthen bank and wide fosse still surround a raised circular area thirty-three metres across, though the original entrance has disappeared. People may have lived inside this ring before the land changed, but the missing half now belongs to forgetting.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 33.2m) enclosed by an earthen bank and a wide fosse. NE half of site has been totally levelled (OPW 1988). Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
