What is recorded here

You are standing in a circular chamber thirty-two metres across, enclosed by an earth and stone bank rising four metres high. The interior sits above the surrounding land, holding a possible stone house-site in the north sector while an exterior fosse cuts through the west, north and east. This is not a fleeting fairy tale but a defined ringfort where human hands shaped the terrain into a defensible, inhabited space.

Internal diameter 32m N-S, 32.4m E-W This sub-circular univallate ringfort is enclosed by an earth and stone bank and traces of an exterior fosse can be noted to the W through N to E. The enclosing bank is very overgrown but well defined, and it rises to 2m-4.2m high externally and on average 2.2m internally. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land. In the N sector is a possible house-site (KE015-019001-) constructed of stone, measuring 6.9m N-S and 9m E-W internally. A lot of stones are visible in the interior. The surviving exterior fosse is c 2m wide and .8m below the height of the surrounding land. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
