What is recorded here

Half a kilometre above the river, a circular earthen bank still holds its shape in the pasture, ferns choking the interior and a southeast gap waiting for whoever might enter. The Cooper families farmed around it through the twentieth century, piling clearance rubble against its outer skin while the fort kept its own quiet distance. It is easy to imagine people walking past that gap for centuries, unsure whether they avoided the place or simply had no reason to break it open.

In level pasture, above a steep fall of ground down to the river which is c. 50m to the NE. A raised roughly circular heavily overgrown area (c. 26m N-S; c. 24m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.2m; ext. H 1.4m). The interior is covered in ferns. A break at SE may indicate the entrance. Field boundaries abut the bank at N and S. Field-clearance rubble is piled against the outer face of the bank at NNE and SSW. This is one of the three raths recorded in Drom townland in the 1940s, one of which was in Clem.T. Cooper's, one in John G. Cooper's and another in Florence T. Cooper's land (Schools Manuscript, Co.
