Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dooros (longford By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Quarrying bit through the eastern bank, proving the fort is no longer complete. The remaining curve suggests a large enclosed place where people lived, worked and possibly kept what mattered to them. The loss is not abstract. It changed the shape of the hole and removed part of the story the earth was still holding.
On a W-facing slope in grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (64m E-W; 60m N-S) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is visible only at NNE; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse and outer bank survive from SE through S to NW. Quarrying has encroached upon the monument at E.
