Fairy fort in Derry, County Cavan: a vanished ringfort on a drumlin hill, last mapped as a fort in 1836 and reduced to a faint curving scarp by 1876. It may have been a home, a boundary marker or a child's climbing hill before becoming a fairy tale. The earth kept only enough shape to suggest that people once lived there and the land forgot the rest.

Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 ed. and 'Site of' on 1876 ed. Situated on the W shoulder of a drumlin hill. All that survives today are faint traces of a low scarp curving from N-E. Otherwise nothing visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
