Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Curraghboy (rathconrath By.)

Situated on a slight natural rise, in gently undulating pasture with wet intervening hollows and having good views in all directions. The monument is visible as a roughly oval-shaped, partially tree-planted area on Digital Globe aerial photography. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a large oval-shaped area abutting a rectangular building to SE. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped area (approx. dims. 32m NE-SW; 23m NW-SE) defined by a scarp with distinct indentation at S, probably the result of quarrying. Poorly preserved ringfort described in 1971 as a much modified, roughly subcircular-shaped area enclosed by a bank which has been reduced to a steep scarp. There is no visible trace of an external fosse. A large part of the site is now occupied by a T-shaped quarry hole which cuts through the scarp at S and W. A portion of the scarp has also been quarried out at NNE.
