Fairy forts are human inventions, often old farms or abandoned homes where people lived and died before the name changed. In Coolacoosane, a round earthen bank and shallow ditch mark a small dwelling place on a ridge sheltered by rock. The collapsed stone along the inner edge suggests people built carefully, lived closely, and left the ground shaped rather than empty.

In pasture, on level ground, atop NE-SW ridge and sheltered by rock outcrop to N. Roughly circular area (24m E-W; 23m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.9m) with shallow external fosse (max. D 0.9m). Areas of collapsed stonework along inner bank face may suggest stone facing. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
