Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonee (clare By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace of the fort remains on the SE-facing slope, though grass and time have erased the bank. What is left is a shape in the land, a circular memory rather than a ruin you can walk inside.
On SE-facing slope of a hill in grassland. Poorly preserved circular rath (D 34.5m) defined by a bank. Lazy beds are visible within NE quadrant of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
