Marianne, a young woman of great beauty, lived alone beside a large lake. Every evening she walked the shore with a white dog at her heel. People loved her kindness but feared her sadness because she never smiled and never entered their homes. One stormy night Marianne vanished, leaving only wet paw prints on the water. The lake became deep and dark, and the white dog still runs along its edge when rain approaches.

Situated on the summit of a drumlin hill. An earlier report (OPW 1977) described a raised almost circular area (int. diam. 37m) enclosed by the remains of a substantial earthen bank and a deep, wide fosse. Original entrance was not recognisable. Site has been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
