Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Clash (magunihy By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mangerton Mountain watches the fort field, where a low stone ring still marks the edge of a forgotten life. People built that circle before written records, perhaps to keep out rain, invaders or grief. The grass has swallowed most of the truth, but the stones remain sharp enough to remind the land that it was held, shaped and loved.
In undulating pasture, on top of an elevation with views S to Mangerton Mountain. According to local information, a roughly circular mound (7m E-W; 6m N-S; H 1.9m) mainly of stones of varying shapes and sizes, is the remains of a rath. The field in which this mound is situated is known as the 'fort field'. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork.
