Fairy fort in Ballyroughan Big, County Carlow: an earthen ringfort, oval 31m by 43m, split by a north-south field boundary, with a visible bank from the south-west and a possible west entrance. People may have lived inside, tended animals, or marked territory there before the field cut through. The name suggests later belief in hidden inhabitants, yet the earth still holds the shape of human hands.
