Fairy forts are a common feature of the Irish landscape. They are circular in shape and are usually formed by an earthen bank and internal ditch. In some cases, the internal area is also marked by a shallow depression. The internal area may be quite small at less than 10 metres in diameter or it may be much larger at over 100 metres across.
