No visible fort exists at Ballyfinnane. Under the rushes and wet pasture, three buried banks and ditches form an oval chamber beside the Maine River. The land has forgotten the shape of human making, but the aerial view still catches the hidden line. What was built there has returned to water and grass, leaving only the suggestion of a boundary behind the swamp.

In rough wet pasture, on the N side of the Maine River. The rath is not visible at ground level and the area is covered in a thick growth of rushes. An oval area (c. 60m N-S; c. 50m E-W), defined by three upstanding banks with intervening fosses and an outer fosse, is visible in an aerial photograph (HSAP, 8903-2) taken in June 1962.
