Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyclogh (connello Lower By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts hide from human eyes, which is half their charm. The other half is that people kept drawing them, measuring them and losing them again. Ballyclogh has given up its shape to the scrub, but the limestone still sticks through like a ridge under skin. What the vegetation refuses to show, the land remembers in the way it holds water and resists the foot.
In low-lying scrub-covered ground, in area of outcropping limestone. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m), could not be located in impenetrable overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
