Ardnagor holds a earthen ringfort, a circular defensive structure typical of the medieval period in County Mayo. The earthworks suggest a settled community lived there, likely protecting family, livestock, and stored grain from raiders or rival clans. The fort marks a time when strongholds defined daily life, forcing people to build barriers against uncertainty.
