What is recorded here

Midden in Eyrephort is a shallow dish of burnt stone and oyster, winkle and limpet shells eroding through the sand-dunes south of Kingstown Bay. A Viking burial lies within the midden area, suggesting people lived, ate and died there before the dunes moved. The sea still strips the place open, returning fragments of a life that never needed to be written down.

In the sand-dunes S of the mouth of Kingstown Bay. An extensive area of exposed midden material eroding out of a shallow horizon, 0.3m in depth beneath the present ground surface. It is composed of burnt stone, oyster, winkle and limpet shells (info. M. Gibbons). A Viking burial (GA022-038----) is known from within the midden area. Not visited.
