Enclosure in Ballyelly

In the Burren uplands in an area of exposed limestone, with good views in all directions except to the E and within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL004-016001-). A subcircular enclosure (85m NE-SW; 76m NW-SE) reported by Michael Lynch. The enclosure is defined by a partially grassed-over double wall (Wth 1.2-1.9m) with a rubble core. From NE to S the wall runs along the edge of a natural terrace. A later wall orientated NW-SE cuts across the S half of the enclosure and a modern field boundary runs just outside the perimeter of the enclosure wall from SE to WSW. A wedge tomb (CL004-016042-) is located in the centre of the enclosure within a slightly sunken linear depression and a hut site (CL004-016043-) is located c. 8m NE of the tomb.
