Fa'side Castle is a 15th-century keep in East Lothian, Scotland, where Mary, Queen of Scots changed into a short skirt and abandoned fine clothes before riding to the Battle of Carberry Hill in 1567. The stones have absorbed English fire, coal conspiracies, and near-demolition, yet they still stand because ordinary people refused to let the ruin disappear. What survives is not polish but stubbornness: a place kept alive by memory, witness, and the willingness to act before pride or profit erases it.
