Gateway, c.1800, comprising pair of limestone ashlar piers with stringcourses supporting inscribed friezes, cut-limestone capping, cut-granite piers forming flanking pedestrian gateway having iron turnstile, random rubble limestone curved flanking walls having cut-limestone coping leading to limestone ashlar outer piers having cut-limestone capping, and random rubble limestone boundary wall to perimeter of site. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Dunmore Cottage.

A gracefully-composed gateway making a pleasing visual statement on the road leading into Kilkenny City from the north. Enhancing the aesthetic value of the composition fine stone masonry evident in the detailing lending a formal Classical quality to the piers contrasts pleasantly with the unrefined quality inherent in the traditional construction of the walls.
