What is recorded here

Whitcastles holds nine fallen stones in a 55-metre oval, marking a Bronze Age ritual place near Lockerbie. The largest stones still point north and south, joining other Solway Firth circles in tracking cardinal directions. People may have gathered there to honour the dead, watch the sky or bind memory to land before the trees came. Today the circle lies among plantation remains, half buried in soil and half exposed to rain, waiting for someone to walk its shallow line and imagine the hands that first arranged it.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Whitcastles as Cultivation Remains (period Unassigned), Plantation Bank (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
