Buittle Place stands as a restored medieval tower house on the historic bailey of an older motte and castle, set in the River Urr valley west of Dalbeattie. The junction of ages is visible in its form: a Norman earthwork beneath later stone rooms, gardens and domestic life. It belongs to Galloway’s layered borderland, where defence, residence and memory occupied the same ground.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Buittle Place as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Built by the Maxwell family in the 15th century, Buittle Place is remembered as a historic tower house associated with the influential Scottish noble family.
