Castle Mains in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, is a bronze spearhead, not a castle at all. The name may belong to the field where it surfaced or the house nearby when someone first picked it up. Under that mislabelled heading lives a sharp little weapon, made to wound and discard. The real castle is the one built on top of the name, not the one buried beneath it.
