Castle Kennedy is a ruined castle in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, known to have stood in the 14th Century before fire destroyed it and most of its contents in 1716. The 2nd Earl began laying out gardens around the ruins almost immediately, continuing for twenty years and shaping seventy acres into canals, basins and vistas that no longer needed a mansion to justify them. Today the ruins remain at the heart of the gardens, while the family lives nearby at Lochinch Castle.
