Castle Kennedy stands in Dumfries and Galloway as a ruined castle at the heart of gardens the 2nd Earl shaped for twenty years after fire destroyed the home in 1716. The loss may have felt like ending, yet he answered it with canals, basins and vistas that did not serve a mansion, turning grief into landscape. The 8th Earl later recovered a faded plan by William Adam from a gardener’s cottage, allowing the grounds to remember what had been forgotten.

Built by the Kennedy family in the 16th century, Castle Kennedy is remembered as a historic seat of the Earls of Cassillis and for its well-preserved Renaissance architecture.
