Palace Yard in Dumfries and Galloway may have worn a medieval moat and later rig-and-furrow marks, yet no visible building or event is recorded there. That absence makes the yard a quiet container for imagination: water may have moved around it, carts may have cut lines through it, and people may have lived beside it without leaving a name.
