Castle Wood in Dumfries and Galloway still carries the shape of a castle in its name, though no castle stands there now. The wood may have grown over a lost wall, a broken tower or a boundary marker, and the name may be the last proof that the place once belonged to someone. Walk its edge and the trees sound like a room without floors.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Wood as No Class (event) (21st Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
