What is recorded here

Low Ardwell may have been a medieval castle in Dumfries and Galloway, though no standing wall or chamber is certain. The name suggests a low dwelling, perhaps a farmhouse elevated into fortress during border unrest. If stones once broke the grass, they have surrendered completely to moss and forgetting.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Low Ardwell as Castle (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
