Castlehill, Inverness is a residential area in the east of the city where Neolithic pits and burning marks still lie beneath modern streets. Tradition holds King Kenneth I granted the lands to the Cuthbert family in the 950s, tying human memory to soil that has been worked since before written history. Castlehill House, probably built in the late 18th or early 19th century, stands beside Culloden Road as a Grade B listed reminder that the place has continually been shaped by living people.
