Ernest Shackleton

Ernest Shackleton died in South Georgia in 1922 and rests in Grytviken, but his Endurance expedition still rewrites itself every time someone recalls how far his men rowed through stormy seas. He led three Antarctic journeys, came within ninety-seven geographical miles of the pole, and returned every crew member alive after the ship sank in pack ice. That is why a memorial in County Dublin still points toward oceans instead of asking people to forget him.
