Thomas Keightley was born in Dublin on 17 October 1789, the same city where he would later abandon law for mythology. He spent his youth moving between Irish rooms and foreign tongues before carrying those stories into English books. Fairy Mythology appeared in 1828, giving small people and distant traditions a shape that scholars could still recognise.
