What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished circular enclosure in County Mayo, Ireland, marked on an 1838 map but now absent from the ground. It may have been a ringfort, large enough for a household and old enough to be forgotten by the fields that cut through it. The land keeps its shape only in measurement, waiting for someone to imagine the doors, fires and arguments that once filled the circle.
In pasture, located on elevated ground. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m), incorporated into the junction of four modern rectangular fields. The enclosure was levelled in the past, and there is no visible trace at ground level; its location and size suggest that it may have been a ringfort (Morahan 2001, 107). This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
