Walmer Castle is a Tudor artillery fort built by Henry VIII in 1539 to defend the coast, later becoming the residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. It has housed prime ministers and royal figures, yet its stone chambers still carry the weight of maritime danger and ceremonial duty. The castle now belongs to English Heritage, preserving both its military origins and its layered domestic history.
