Doonty holds an unclassified Megalithic tomb, meaning even the survey leaves its exact purpose unfinished. The stones likely marked death, memory or boundary long before writing arrived in County Mayo. They still stand because people kept returning to that spot, perhaps to bury, pray or remember. The missing detail does not weaken the place; it invites you to sit with what the stones withheld.
