What is recorded here
This record refers to the remains of a bank or wall enclosing a roughly D-shaped area, which may originally have been circular (diam. c. 85-90m). The wall/bank roughly follows the lower contours of a natural elevation. At SW–N it can be traced as a low, degraded stony rise (Wth c. 2m). At N–SE, it is reduced to a scarp (ext. H 1m at SE), and at S it is truncated by a modern road (N59). Centrally located within the enclosure, on the summit of the elevation, is a cashel (SL018-046001-). The intervening gap between the cashel and the enclosure bank/wall measures c. 20-25m and is sub-divided by transverse walls. The date of the enclosure is uncertain. It is possible that the enclosure is contemporary with the cashel and represents an outer enclosing bank of the cashel. Alternatively the enclosure may relate to the incorporation of the cashel into a later field system (SL018-045003-). It is recorded in an aerial photograph (ACP V203/ 134-3; roll 128, print 1).
