Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yard stands beside Donaghmore Church on a gentle east-facing slope where a small stream flows toward the Broadmeadow River. Its masonry walls enclose about fifty metres of quiet ground, crowded with headstones placed since the 1890s. The stones mark ordinary lives lived near water and farmland, while the empty soil beyond hints that older hands may have tended the same grass.
Located on a gentle E-facing slope, with a small W-E stream that joins the Broadmeadow River c. 750m further E, c. 60m to the N. The parish church of Donaghmore (ME045-008----) is within a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 50m E-W; c. 40m N-S) defined by masonry walls with headstones dating largely from c. 1890 to the present. Archaeological testing (02E1396) c. 50-80m to the N-NE produced no related material (Lynch 2002). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 April, 2015 Amended: 16 February 2021
