Burial in Donadea

Burial

What is recorded here

Donadea holds a forgotten body beneath its bog, waiting for the day its story is remembered. In 1991, turf-cutting broke through to a left femur buried nearly a metre deep. The bone belonged to an adult, but the exact spot has been lost. What remains is a shape of absence, marked only by the scar where the cut entered the earth.
In 1991, fragmentary human remains, identified as the left femur of an adult (NMI 1999:223), were discovered during turf-cutting in a bog at Donadea, at a depth of c. 0.9m below ground level. The precise location of the burial is unknown. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol 2, 482) Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
