Indicated

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a levelled fairy fort in County Cork, Ireland. A circular enclosure about thirty metres wide, it disappeared from the surface before modern cameras arrived. The land may still remember the shape of its walls, even if grass and soil have erased the stones.
Indicated only on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m). Levelled; no visible surface trace. Hartnett (1939, 53) recorded levelled stone fort (diam. c. 30.5m) here. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
