What is recorded here

Clear in the facts is a circular earthwork in County Mayo, about forty-six metres across, with a low bank and shallow ditch. Local tradition calls it a fairy fort, which means people stopped treating it as a home and began treating it as a warning: a place set apart, marked by earth, and best approached with respect. The gap in the bank does not read like failure. It reads like an invitation, or a trap door in the landscape, waiting for someone reckless enough to walk through.

On slight rise, in rough pasture. Circular area (47m N-S; 46m E-W), enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.5m), with shallow external fosse (Wth 0.2m) on E and W. Gaps in bank on SE and S.
