Francis Ledwidge served at Ebrington in 1916, a fact preserved on a blue plaque in Ebrington Square. The poet died in 1917, but the marker keeps his name attached to the place where he stood guard. Ulster History Circle, Derry City Council and Strabane District Council recognize that temporary military presence still belongs in local memory.
