This substantial early nineteenth-century house is pleasantly located in landscaped grounds. The classically proportioned elevations are enlivened by decorative render bracket course and dramatic Wyatt windows. The house retains numerous interesting historical features such as various types of timber sliding sash windows and tall, rendered chimneystacks. The building was the home of Cork City MP Alexander McCarthy (1803-1868). Like many houses in the area, it was later used to house a member of the militia stationed at Buttevant. The angled entrance gates form an appropriate introduction to the house, the stonework and cast-iron gates exhibiting features of skilled craftsmanship.
